Tyson Fury has made a bold declaration ahead of his highly anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, scheduled for December 21 in Saudi Arabia. Fury, known as the 'Gypsy King,' insists that he must knock out Usyk to secure victory after losing their first bout on a controversial split decision.
Fury Determined to Avoid Another Decision Loss
Fury's frustration is palpable. He believes the judges' decision in their May 18 match, where Usyk was awarded the win with scores of 115-112 and 114-113 from two judges, was flawed. The third judge scored it 114-113 in favor of Fury. This outcome handed Usyk the WBC belt, making him the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Reflecting on the First Fight
Fury has watched the fight numerous times and remains steadfast in his belief that he was the rightful winner. "I thought I boxed the head right off him for most of the rounds," Fury stated. He attributes his loss to having too much fun in the ring, which led to a critical mistake in the ninth round, resulting in a 10-8 score against him.
"I’ve got to get him out of there because I’m not going to get a decision," Fury admitted. "It’s unfortunate because it’s hard enough to win a fight just by winning it, never mind knowing you’ve got to knock someone out."
Usyk's Injuries and Future Prospects
Fury also pointed out that Usyk is currently recovering from significant injuries, including a broken jaw and eye socket, which he sustained during their first encounter. Despite these setbacks, Fury is eagerly looking forward to their December rematch, promising fans a "Christmas extravaganza" in Saudi Arabia.
The Gypsy King's Mindset
Fury remains undeterred by the previous loss. He believes everything happens for a reason and maintains that the split decision hasn't affected his outlook or routine. "I lost on a split decision; it could’ve gone my way, it could’ve not. I’d have been doing the same stuff anyway," he reflected.
Looking Ahead to December
As the rematch date approaches, Fury's confidence is unwavering. He is focused on the challenge ahead, determined to prove his dominance in the ring and reclaim his title. The boxing world will undoubtedly be watching closely as these two titans clash once again.
