Sergey Bogachuk has successfully reclaimed his number one position in the World Boxing Council rankings after his team filed an appeal against a controversial demotion. The Ukrainian boxer (26-2, 24 KOs), who competes in the junior middleweight division (up to 69.9 kg), had been unexpectedly moved to second place when former world champion Jaron Ennis entered the weight class.

Tom Loeffler, Bogachuk's promoter, wasn't going to accept this situation quietly and promptly submitted an appeal to the WBC challenging their decision. The organization has now responded favorably to the Ukrainian's camp.

"WBC always adheres to its own rules and current requirements, therefore we inform that the Appeals Committee together with the WBC Ratings Committee has reviewed this appeal and satisfied the submitted application, ordering Bogachuk to be returned to first place," – the WBC stated in their official response.

By the way, fans won't have to wait long to see Bogachuk back in action. The hard-hitting Ukrainian is scheduled to enter the ring on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas against American Brandon Adams – an opponent who previously handed Bogachuk one of his two professional defeats several years ago.

This intriguing rematch will feature on the undercard of the highly anticipated Alvarez-Crawford showdown, giving Bogachuk significant visibility. Can the reinstated number one contender avenge his previous loss while maintaining his prime position in the rankings?
