For the first time in the history of Ukrainian tennis, five athletes made it to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. This happened at this year's Wimbledon, where Marta Kostyuk (#19 WTA), Elina Svitolina (#21 WTA), Dayana Yastremska (#27 WTA), Daria Snigur (#130 WTA) and Yulia Starodubtseva (#153 WTA) demonstrated their skill.

A historic breakthrough in Ukrainian tennis

This result surpassed the previous record of Ukraine, when four tennis players reached the second round. This happened three times: at the Australian Open 2018, the US Open 2020 and again at the Australian Open 2024. Now this record has been renewed thanks to the brilliant performances of our athletes at Wimbledon.

Important victories of the first round

Elina Svitolina, one of the most famous Ukrainian tennis players, started her way to the second round by defeating her Polish opponent Magda Lynette (#44 WTA) in three sets – 7:5, 6:7 (9:11), 6:3. Svitolina showed incredible endurance and character, which allowed her to overcome her opponent.

Support of young talents

Marta Kostyuk, who has already established herself in the top 20 of the world ranking, continues to confirm her status as one of the most promising tennis players in the world. Dayana Yastremska, Darya Snigur and Yulia Starodubtseva also showed a high level of play, which emphasizes the strength of Ukrainian tennis.

Statistics and historical context

Until now, Ukraine's best result at this stage of the tournament was four athletes who reached the second round three times: at the Australian Open 2018, US Open 2020 and Australian Open 2024. In men's tennis, Ukraine had a maximum of three tennis players in the second round at the Australian Open 2011 .

Forecasts and expectations

The success of Ukrainian tennis players at Wimbledon opens new horizons for Ukrainian tennis. There are still many matches ahead, but we can already say that this tournament will be an important milestone in the history of our sport. We hope for further success of our girls and wish them strength and inspiration for new victories.
