Maria Sakkari is set to face off against Emma Raducanu this Friday in a highly anticipated rematch of their 2021 US Open semi-final. Back then, the Greek star entered as the favourite but was stunned by Raducanu on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Sakkari Embraces the Underdog Role

This time around, Sakkari, 28, is keen to play the role of the underdog. She has quietly navigated through the first two rounds, defeating McCartney Kessler and Arantxa Rus on Court 12. While her matches might not have garnered much attention, Sakkari will be pleased with her progress, having won only once in her last five Grand Slams.

Low-Key Matches, High Praise

The ninth seed has not yet played on the big courts at this year’s Championships. Fans who have sought out her matches have been impressed by her performances and her Adidas attire. Last year, Sakkari wore a much-discussed "bra outfit" in her round one loss to Marta Kostyuk. This year, she opted for a more conventional dress, which has received great reviews online.

"I actually like Sakkari's kit, Adidas did a nice job," one fan posted on social media.

"Maria Sakkari has a fun kit, very her," commented another.

"Sakkari looks very lovely in her outfit! Well done, Adidas!" gushed a third.

"I’m obsessed with Sakkari outfit," added another fan.

A New Challenge on Centre Court

Next up, Sakkari is set to take centre stage as she battles Raducanu. Speaking about the prospect, Sakkari said:

"I've never played on Centre, so it's going to be amazing. I've played in big courts. I played on Arthur Ashe. I played in Indian Wells, which is the second biggest court. Obviously, here it's different because of the Royal Box and everything and the people that come to watch you. I don't feel like it's something new for me. I've been a top-10 player for the last three years or even more, so I've played in big courts. It's not like I'm just coming into this and it's my first time."

As Sakkari prepares for this high-stakes match, fans are eager to see if she can turn the tide against Raducanu, who has become a formidable force in women's tennis. With her renewed confidence and experience, Sakkari aims to make a statement and possibly rewrite the script from their last encounter.
