The qualification of the prestigious grass tournament WTA 500 in Berlin promises to be exciting for Ukrainian tennis fans. Two talented Ukrainian tennis players, Dayana Yastremska and Yulia Starodubtseva, are preparing for their opening matches in the selection, which will take place in the coming days.
Yastremska - first seed number
Dayana Yastremska, who occupies the 27th position in the WTA ranking, received the first seed in the qualification. Her opponent in the opening round will be Zeynep Sonmez from Turkey, who is currently ranked 154th. Yastremska, known for her aggressive style of play and powerful shots, has every chance to advance, but the grass tournament can always bring surprises.
Starodubtseva's debut on grass
Yulia Starodubtseva, who occupies the 134th position in the WTA ranking, will try her hand at grass for the first time in her career. Her opponent will be the German Tamara Korpach, the seventh seeded qualifier and the 74th ranked player in the world. This match will be a real challenge for Yulia, but her perseverance and desire to prove her skill can be the key to success.
"I am looking forward to my first match on grass. This is a new experience for me, and I am ready to fight for every ball," Starodubtseva shared before the start of the qualification.
Main grid: Kostyuk among the participants
It is worth noting that Marta Kostyuk has already secured a place in the main draw of the tournament thanks to her high rating. Her performances on grass are also attracting attention as Marta continues to show consistent results and raise her level of play.
Forecasts and expectations
The tournament in Berlin is an important event for Ukrainian tennis players, as it provides an opportunity to get in shape before Wimbledon, one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. Yastremska and Starodubtseva have every chance to show themselves from the best side and gain important points for their rating.
"The tournament in Berlin is a great opportunity to prepare for Wimbledon. I am sure that our girls will show a high level of play," said the coach of the Ukrainian tennis team.
