For the first time in the history of Ukrainian tennis, eight female tennis players from Ukraine will participate in the Grand Slam tournament. Wimbledon-2024, which will be held on the courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club from July 1 to 14, will be a real test for our athletes.
A historic moment for Ukrainian tennis
The following will play in the main draw of the tournament according to the WTA rating: Marta Kostyuk (WTA 18), Elina Svitolina (WTA 21), Dayana Yastremska (WTA 28), Angelina Kalinina (WTA 44) and Lesya Tsurenko (WTA 57). Kateryna Bindl used her frozen ranking (WTA 175) to also compete.
Strong line-up in qualifications
Two more Ukrainian women made it to the main draw from qualification: Darya Snigur (WTA 131) and Yulia Starodubtseva (WTA 153). This means that Ukrainian fans will have someone to cheer for at Wimbledon-2024.
"This is an incredible achievement for our country. We are proud of our athletes and wish them success at this prestigious tournament," commented the president of the Tennis Federation of Ukraine.
Not everyone succeeded
Unfortunately, not all Ukrainian tennis players were able to qualify. Kataryna Zavatska (WTA 200) and Anastasia Soboleva (WTA 228) stopped their performances at the qualification stage.
Expectations and forecasts
Wimbledon has always been one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world of tennis, and this year Ukrainian athletes have every chance to show themselves from the best side. Analysts are already making predictions about the performances of Ukrainian tennis players, and fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament.
"We are ready to show the world that Ukrainian tennis is on the rise. Each of our girls has their own unique style of play, and we believe in their success," said the head coach of the Ukrainian tennis team.
Summary and meaning
This historic moment for Ukrainian tennis shows how much the level of our female athletes has grown on the world stage. Eight female tennis players at Wimbledon is not just a number, it is a symbol of Ukrainian resilience and talent. Let's cheer for our girls and hope for their victories!
