Cristiano Ronaldo has effectively ruled out participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup despite receiving multiple offers to join teams competing in the tournament.
"It's almost decided that I will NOT take part at the FIFA Club World Cup despite receiving many invitations and proposals," Ronaldo revealed. "There have been talks, contacts - but you have to think about short, medium and long term."
The 40-year-old Portuguese star's contract with "Al-Nassr" expires on June 30, creating speculation about a potential quick transfer that would allow him to feature in the expanded 32-team tournament beginning June 15 in the United States.
Such a move would have required his Saudi employers to release him early from his current deal - similar to the arrangement between Arsenal and Jorginho, who was released to join "Flamengo".
Interestingly, despite his age, Ronaldo appears far from considering retirement. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has maintained his scoring touch, topping the Saudi Pro League charts for two consecutive seasons since joining from "Manchester United" in 2023.
"My mentality is to live day by day," he explained. "I don't have many more years to play - but I'm enjoying the moment. There's no day decided for my retirement. I feel happy, I'm here to enjoy and keep going."
Despite his individual success, Ronaldo has failed to secure any trophies with "Al-Nassr" since his high-profile arrival in Saudi Arabia.
Fernando Hierro, the club's sporting director, remains optimistic about convincing Ronaldo to extend his stay. "I have to be positive. I don't think Ronaldo will leave Al-Nassr," Hierro stated at a press conference. "We are working to renew his contract so he can continue with us."
Hierro acknowledged Ronaldo's immense impact: "He is a huge phenomenon in the history of football and has helped the league grow."
Will the Saudi club manage to keep their prized asset beyond this summer? The clock is ticking as June 30 approaches.
