Vladyslav Lupashko, head coach of Lviv "Karpaty", assessed his team's performance in the completed Ukrainian Premier League season, reflecting on both achievements and disappointments after finishing sixth with 46 points.
"Honestly, I took the results of the last two matches quite painfully. Overall, I understand the season was very good for 'Karpaty.' The club and team moved forward together, and the result was achieved through joint efforts," Lupashko explained.
The coach didn't hide his disappointment about missing European qualification, noting that injuries played a crucial role in their late-season slump. During the match against "Kolos," the team lost two more players, which significantly affected their performance.
Interestingly, Lupashko believes that missing European competitions might actually benefit the club's development. "I'm convinced that strategically, these European cups weren't necessary for us at this stage. We're not fully formed as a team yet," he stated.
Regarding foreign players, the coach expressed complete satisfaction with their performance. "I'm confident all our foreigners are quite high-quality. All legionnaires we currently have should be signed and kept in the team," Lupashko insisted, highlighting the success of the club's scouting system.
He particularly mentioned Brazilian player Bruninho, who received criticism after early matches but was given time to adapt and improve. Similar situations occurred with Fabiano, Luis Yano, and Tanda, who all needed adaptation periods before showing their true potential.
For next season, "Karpaty" plans selective reinforcement rather than massive changes. "We're now at the stage where we can focus on specific strengthening. We don't need eight or ten players like last summer – we need two or three footballers," the coach explained.
Lupashko also updated on injured players, mentioning that Stetskov will soon receive final medical assessment, while Sych should begin recovery training within a week.
The coach has ambitious plans for the upcoming season: "I believe next season we should aim to improve as a team, progress, and finish higher than we did this season."
Can "Karpaty" take the next step in their development and challenge for European spots next season? Their measured approach to squad building certainly suggests they're on the right track.
