Eric Peterson, who coached Ukrainian basketball player Maxim Shulga during his time at the University of Utah, believes his former player has what it takes to break into the NBA.
"Max is very serious about his mindset and has the type of character that doesn't tolerate failure. There aren't many NBA players from Ukraine, and I think Shulga really wants to become such a basketball player," Peterson explained.
Maxim Shulga's path to the world's premier basketball league received a significant boost when he was selected by "Boston" in the 2025 draft. The club has already offered him a contract, but this doesn't automatically secure him a place on the team.
By the way, Peterson remains confident in the Ukrainian's prospects despite the challenges ahead.
"He will do everything necessary to make it in the NBA. He has both the talent and character for it," Peterson added.
The coach's assessment highlights Shulga's determination as perhaps his most valuable asset. Can the Ukrainian overcome the final hurdles and join the select few from his country to play at basketball's highest level?
