Illia Upyr has officially extended his contract with "Cherkasy Mavpy" basketball club until the end of the 2025/26 season. The club's press service announced the new agreement with the 19-year-old Ukrainian guard, though financial details remain undisclosed.
Upyr has already established himself as part of the city's main team, with the upcoming championship marking his third season in the Superleague. His performance stats from last season show he averaged 14 minutes and 5 seconds on court per game, contributing 3.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists, with an average efficiency rating of 3.0 points.
Interestingly, this extension comes as part of a broader effort by "Cherkasy Mavpy" to solidify their roster ahead of the new season. The club management has been actively working on team formation, extending contracts with several key players. Among those who've signed new agreements are Andrey Agafonov, Kirill Marchenko, Lev Koshevatsky, and Nazar Kholod.
The young guard's development over the past two seasons has clearly impressed the Cherkasy coaching staff. Will Upyr take his game to the next level in the upcoming season? The team certainly seems to be betting on his continued growth as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.
