Conor McGregor's recent appearance at Bellator Dublin has left the MMA fandom in dismay. The Irish MMA icon had previously announced his withdrawal from his UFC 303 bout against Michael Chandler due to an undisclosed injury.
McGregor's Injury: A Training Mishap
McGregor explained the situation:
"I picked up an injury before the press conference that required more time to heal than was available to me. The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly, but one made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC, and my team."
He later revealed on Instagram that the injury occurred during a training session without full protective gear:
"We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean."
Fans Question McGregor's Commitment
Although McGregor mentioned that the injury requires "a few weeks" to heal, he did not specify the exact timeline for his return. Despite this, McGregor was seen at Bellator Dublin to corner fellow Irish MMA fighter Sinead Kavanagh. This sparked criticism from fans who questioned his presence at the event given his recent injury.
One fan cheekily referenced McGregor's past statement about his foot being swollen during a fight, stating:
"You must understand my foot was a balloon when I walked into that fight."
This comment reflects the fans' skepticism about McGregor's injury and his decision to appear at Bellator Dublin.
Partying Before the Fight?
Adding fuel to the fire, McGregor was spotted partying at his Dublin bar, The Black Forge Inn, just six weeks before his UFC 303 fight against Michael Chandler. McGregor had previously hinted at an alcohol ban ahead of his bout, making his actions even more controversial.
The Fallout: Fans' Disappointment
McGregor's appearance at the event has raised concerns among fans about the severity of his injury and his commitment to his recovery. The fans' reaction highlights their disappointment with McGregor's actions and raises questions about his priorities.
In summary, Conor McGregor's presence at Bellator Dublin has drawn criticism from fans who are skeptical about his injury and recovery. His decision to attend the event despite his recent withdrawal from a UFC bout has left many questioning his commitment to his recovery. McGregor's actions have sparked a wave of disappointment among the MMA fandom.
