Dramatic match between Ecuador and Venezuela
"Venezuela showed real character and will to win, despite the numerical superiority of the opponent."
In the first round of Group B at Copa America 2024, the national teams of Ecuador and Venezuela met. The match was a real test for both teams, but it was Venezuela who came out victorious, winning 2:1.
Withdrawal of Valencia and the beginning of the drama
Events began to unfold in the 22nd minute, when Enner Valencia was sent off for a foul. He tried to get to the ball, but spiked into the opponent, which forced the referee to show a red card. This was a serious blow for Ecuador, but the team was not going to give up.
Sarmiento opens an account
Even in the minority, Ecuador was able to open the score. In the 40th minute, Sarmiento found himself free in the penalty area and after a ricochet he accurately shot into the goal. This gave the Ecuadorians hope for a positive result, but the game was just beginning.
Comeback of Venezuela
Venezuela, having a numerical advantage, began to actively put pressure on the opponent's goal. Their efforts were rewarded in the 64th minute when Cadiz equalized with a shot close to the near post. This goal was a turning point in the match.
But Venezuela did not stop there. In the 74th minute, Bello successfully played on the finishing line, scoring the decisive goal that brought victory to his team. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Venezuela, showing the true character of the team.
Victory of Mexico over Jamaica
In another Group B match, Mexico narrowly beat Jamaica 1-0. The first half was scoreless, but Arteaga scored the decisive goal after the break in the 69th minute. The defender was conveniently dropped the ball on the line of the penalty area, and he accurately shot into the far corner.
"It was a tough game, but we were able to show our strength and get an important victory," Arteaga said after the match.
Results and forecasts
The first round of Copa America 2024 in Group B gave fans incredible emotions and dramas. Venezuela showed their potential with a win in the minority, while Mexico showed their stability and reliability in defence. The next matches promise to be no less exciting, and we can already say that the fight for exit from the group will be very intense.
It is important to note that Ecuador will have to play the following matches without their leader Enner Valencia, which could significantly affect their chances of success in the tournament. Venezuela, on the other hand, is gaining momentum and can become one of the favorites of the group.
