Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco has expressed his displeasure with the way he took chances following his side's 2-0 win over Romania in the second round of the Euro 2024 group stage.
Pressing and controlling the game
Belgium managed to get the important three points, but Tedesco did not hide his disappointment at the lack of effectiveness in the final phase of the attacks. The team actively pressed the opponent, trying to win the ball and control the game. "Romania likes to control the game. It's not easy against them, but we have a good mentality," said the coach.
Unrealized moments
Despite the victory, the coach emphasized the problem with the implementation of opportunities: "We wasted a lot of opportunities and I am not very happy with that. It would have been better if we could have decided the outcome of the match much earlier." According to Tedesco, the team needed a lot more chances to score, especially given the quality and quantity of chances created.
"It's fantastic that we're creating so many chances, but we needed to finish this game earlier," the coach added.
A look at upcoming matches
Belgium currently have two wins in two rounds, but Tedesco believes that is not enough to secure a place in the play-offs. "We were able to score twice in two rounds, and that's not enough. Only today we could score five," he emphasized.
The next challenge is a match with Ukraine
The next match for the Belgian national team will take place on June 26 against Ukraine. The meeting is scheduled to start at 19:00. Serhiy Rebrov's team also has ambitions to reach the playoffs, and this match could be decisive for both teams.
Analysis and forecasts
The Belgian national team shows a high quality of play, but problems with the implementation of moments may play a cruel joke in future matches. The team must find a way to improve their offensive efficiency in order to secure more comfortable victories. The meeting with Ukraine will be a real test for both teams, and the result of this match can tell a lot about their chances for a successful performance in the tournament.
