Floyd Mayweather has surprisingly praised Jake Paul ahead of the much-anticipated clash between the social media star and boxing legend Mike Tyson. The fight, set for July 20 at the 80,000-seat Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas, has generated significant buzz in the boxing community and beyond.
Mayweather’s Unexpected Praise
Despite their rocky relationship, Mayweather acknowledged Paul's business acumen and the way he has been matched in his boxing career.
"What he’s doing is kinda cool. If he can continue to steal money and they match him the way they match him, I can’t knock his hustle," Mayweather commented. "If they can match him the way that they have been, more power to him."
Tyson’s Return to the Ring
Tyson, a heavyweight icon, hasn't competed in a professional fight since his 2005 retirement match against Kevin McBride. The former champion, now 57, faced a health scare earlier this week due to an ulcer flare-up while on a flight. However, Tyson assured fans that he is fine and the fight will proceed as planned.
Paul’s Rapid Ascent
Jake Paul, who has amassed a professional record of 9-1 since taking up boxing four years ago, is set for the biggest challenge of his career. Known for his knockout victory over NBA star Nate Robinson, Paul has quickly become a polarizing figure in the boxing world.
Health Concerns for Tyson
The fight, scheduled for eight two-minute rounds with 14oz gloves, has raised concerns about Tyson's health. Nathan Howarth, Development and Operations Director at the Concussion Legacy Foundation UK, warned about the inherent risks of boxing for older fighters.
"Boxing has an inherent risk of concussion, there’s an increased risk of traumatic brain injury we have seen like bleeds on the brain," Howarth stated. "I’m not saying there is any evidence that as an older fighter, Mike would be at risk of that, however, we do know the impacts of subclinical concussions."
Anticipation Builds
As the fight date approaches, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this unique matchup will unfold. Will Tyson’s legendary experience overcome Paul's youthful vigor, or will the YouTuber-turned-boxer pull off another shocking victory? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the world will be watching.
