Kelvin Gastelum is set for a crucial showdown this Saturday at UFC on ABC 6, taking place in the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After a series of ups and downs, the seasoned UFC veteran is determined to prove his best days are yet to come.
Gastelum's Quest for Victory
Gastelum, boasting an 18-9 MMA and 12-9 UFC record, will face off against fellow veteran Daniel Rodriguez (17-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC). Despite recent struggles, Gastelum remains confident in his ability to outclass Rodriguez in every aspect of the fight.
"I feel very confident in my abilities and that I'm the better fighter. I'm ready to fight wherever the fight goes," Gastelum asserted.
Weight Class Shift Adds Drama
In a surprising twist, the bout will now take place at middleweight due to Gastelum's difficulty cutting weight to the contracted 170 pounds. This change could potentially impact the dynamics of the fight, but Gastelum remains unfazed.
A Fighter's Resilience
Reflecting on his recent loss to Sean Brady last December, Gastelum emphasized the resilience required to bounce back in the fight game.
"It's very tough to get up again and again and again, but that's what a fighter does. We fight every day," he remarked.
Changes in Preparation
Gastelum has made significant changes to his training regimen, moving from Kings MMA in California to Fight Ready in Arizona. Despite a rocky start with his new team, he believes these adjustments will pay off in the long run.
A Decade of Battles
With over a decade in the UFC and a record of 2-6 in his last eight bouts, Gastelum has faced some of the best fighters in the world. At just 32 years old, he is optimistic about his future in the sport.
"I still think I can do this, and I think my better days are ahead of me," Gastelum said confidently.
As the fight night approaches, all eyes will be on Gastelum to see if he can reclaim his winning ways and reignite his career.
