The countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has officially begun with the announcement of the 12 women’s volleyball teams set to compete. This year's lineup promises thrilling matches and intense competition.

Brazil and China: Titans Clash Again

Brazil, a consistent force in women's volleyball since 1980, qualified as runners-up in the Pool B qualifier. With two gold medals from 2008 and 2012, they are determined to reclaim their former glory. China, the highest-placed Asian team, boasts an impressive three gold medals (1984, 2004, 2016) and will once again be a formidable opponent.

Rising Stars and Host Nation Debuts

The Dominican Republic, who topped Pool A in Ningbo, will make their fourth Olympic appearance. Meanwhile, France, the host nation, is set to debut in women’s volleyball, adding an extra layer of excitement for the French fans. Italy and Japan secured their spots via world ranking, with Italy marking its seventh consecutive Olympics and Japan making its 14th appearance with two golds (1964, 1976).

Underdogs and Dark Horses

Kenya, the highest-placed African team, is seeking their first win in what will be their fourth appearance. The Netherlands, the last team to qualify via world ranking, is aiming to surpass their best finish of fourth place. Poland, runners-up in Pool C, are making their fourth appearance with hopes of adding to their two bronzes (1964, 1968).

European Powerhouses and Defending Champions

Serbia, runners-up in Pool A, are entering their fifth consecutive Olympics with a silver (2016) and bronze (2020) to their name. Türkiye, who won all matches in Pool B, is making their third Olympic appearance, aiming to improve on their best finish of fifth place. The USA, the reigning champions, topped Pool C and are making their 11th consecutive Olympic appearance, eager to defend their 2020 gold.

"This lineup is a testament to the global talent and competitive spirit in women’s volleyball. We are set for an unforgettable tournament," said an FIVB spokesperson.

The stage is set for Paris 2024, where these 12 teams will battle for the ultimate prize in women's volleyball. With a mix of seasoned champions, rising stars, and determined underdogs, the tournament promises to deliver unforgettable moments, fierce rivalries, and historic achievements.
