Jannik Sinner will face Novak Djokovic in what promises to be an electrifying Roland Garros semi-final on June 6. The world number one from Italy continues his impressive run despite recent off-court challenges, while the Serbian veteran aims for his 25th Grand Slam title.
The match is scheduled for 8:00 PM Kyiv time, bringing together two players who are currently tied 4-4 in their head-to-head meetings.
Sinner, who recently returned from a three-month doping-related suspension, has been absolutely dominant throughout the tournament. He hasn't dropped a single set while dismissing opponents including Renderknek, Gasquet, Lehečka, Rublev, and most recently Bublik with the scoreline 6:1, 7:5, 6:0. This semi-final will be his first serious test at this year's French Open.
Djokovic, at 38, continues to defy age expectations. The world number six has also shown impressive form, reaching his second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final this year. Like Sinner, he cruised through early rounds without dropping a set against McDonald, Moutet, Misolic, and Norri.
Interestingly, his quarter-final against Alexander Zverev provided the first real challenge, with Djokovic losing the opening set before rallying to win 4:6, 6:3, 6:2, 6:4.
While Sinner enters as the favorite – having won their last three encounters – it's worth noting that their only previous clay court meeting went to Djokovic, although that was four years ago. The 14-year age gap between the players could prove decisive in what might be a lengthy battle.
Can the veteran Djokovic's experience on clay overcome Sinner's youth and recent dominance? This semi-final might just give us the answer.
