AS Roma appears to be nearing a decision on their next head coach, with Atalanta's Gian Piero Gasperini reportedly emerging as the leading candidate to take the helm at the Stadio Olimpico.

Current interim manager Claudio Ranieri has been dropping strong hints in recent interviews that the club's leadership is preparing to announce his successor soon, bringing clarity to the situation that has lingered throughout much of the season.

The Roman club has explored several options during their search process. Italian media outlets reveal that former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic was previously under serious consideration. The 42-year-old German-Croatian tactician, who departed from the Bundesliga side last summer, was reportedly engaged in advanced negotiations with Roma's hierarchy.

Following Daniele De Rossi's dismissal earlier in the campaign, Roma apparently presented Terzic with a nine-month contract offer that included an extension clause contingent on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. However, those initial talks failed to yield an agreement.

According to Statbet analysis, Roma has struggled for consistency this season, which has intensified the pressure to find the right coaching fit to restore the club's Champions League ambitions.

While negotiations with Terzic reportedly resumed in recent months—this time for a more comprehensive arrangement—the situation appears to have shifted significantly. Roma has made substantial progress in discussions with Gasperini, who has earned widespread acclaim for his transformative work at Atalanta Bergamo.

As things stand, Gasperini has seemingly moved ahead in the race and now appears most likely to be appointed as the next permanent manager of the capital city club.
