Newcastle United have received a timely boost ahead of Sunday's season-defining Premier League finale as manager Eddie Howe revealed star striker Alexander Isak could be available for selection against Everton.

The Swedish forward, who has been recovering from a groin injury, is making "good progress" according to Howe, despite not yet training with the first team. Isak's potential return comes at a crucial moment for the Magpies, who know a victory against Everton would secure Champions League qualification.

"There is a possibility he could play," Howe said about his star striker. "He will only feature if he's in condition to contribute."

Isak has been in remarkable form this season, scoring 23 Premier League goals – second only to Mohamed Salah's 28 – making him a vital asset in Newcastle's push for Europe's elite competition.

Currently sitting fourth in the table following their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, Newcastle are level on points with Chelsea and Aston Villa, just one point ahead of Nottingham Forest. According to Statbet analysis, Newcastle's head-to-head record could prove decisive in the final Champions League spot calculations if teams finish level on points.

Howe emphasized the significance of Sunday's match, stating: "It would be an immense disappointment not to qualify for the Champions League."

While Liverpool and Arsenal have already secured their Champions League berths, Manchester City occupy third position with a two-point advantage over the chasing pack. The final matchday will also see Fulham host Manchester City, Nottingham Forest welcome Chelsea, and Manchester United face Aston Villa in what promises to be a dramatic conclusion to the Premier League season.

Newcastle, who claimed the English League Cup this season by defeating Liverpool in the final, now have their sights set on adding Champions League qualification to what could become a landmark campaign for the club.
