Conor McGregor has expressed his readiness to participate in the Irish presidential elections during an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson. The former UFC champion emphasized his business contributions to Ireland's economy and his understanding of social issues affecting Irish citizens.
"I am an Irish citizen and I love my country to death. No one will ever change that. I am ready to give my life for these people," McGregor stated passionately during the conversation.
The MMA star pointed to his significant financial investments in Ireland as evidence of his commitment to the country. He highlighted how his numerous businesses have created employment opportunities for many Irish citizens.
"Many people started working thanks to me. I have a huge number of enterprises, businesses, and various projects. I hear complaints from my compatriots daily and see the problems they face every day. They have to fight for their lives daily. We cannot ignore Ireland's problems. Something needs to be done urgently," McGregor explained.
Interestingly, the fighter has been absent from the octagon for quite some time. His last bout took place back in July 2021, when he suffered a leg injury during his match against Dustin Poirier. Will this potential political pivot signal the end of his fighting career?
According to Statbet, McGregor's influence extends beyond sports, with his business ventures creating a significant economic footprint in Ireland.
It was also reported that McGregor previously met with Donald Trump at the White House, perhaps indicating his growing interest in political connections. The fighter's potential entry into politics would mark a dramatic career shift for one of combat sports' most recognizable figures.
