Getafe: About
What you need to know about Getafe football club
This team is not a giant of Spanish football, does not have hundreds of millions for transfers, but constantly proves that it can spoil the life of even the biggest clubs.
Founded in 1946, Getafe remained in the shadow of other Madrid teams for a long time, but gradually made a name for itself in La Liga. The club is based in the suburbs of Madrid, and its home arena is the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
Getafe is strength of character, tough football and fearlessness in front of any opponent.
Getafe: the history of the club
Unlike Real or Barcelona, the history of Getafe is not full of shiny trophies or loud victories. However, this club is a real fighter that has come a long way from the lower divisions to the elite of Spanish football.
For a long time, Getafe performed in the third and second divisions, until in 2004, for the first time in history, it entered La Liga. Many thought it would be a short visit, but the team not only established itself in the elite, but also began to surprise everyone with its game.
The best period in the history of the club is 2007 and 2008, when Getafe reached the final of the Spanish Cup twice in a row and played in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup.
In the 2018/19 season, the team almost got into the Champions League, finishing 5th in La Liga – the best result in the club's history.
Getafe: Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium
The Coliseum is the real Getafe fortress. It is incredibly difficult for opponents to play here, regardless of their status.
- Capacity – more than 17,000 seats.
- A small but very loud stadium where the fans always push the team forward.
- Named after Alfonso Perez, one of Madrid's best footballers, although he never played for Getafe.
Getafe: achievements
Although the club does not have a large number of trophies, its results speak for themselves:
- Finalist of the Spanish Cup – 2007, 2008.
- Quarterfinalist of the UEFA Cup – 2008.
- 5th place in La Liga – 2019.
