Roy Jones Jr has stepped up as a potential replacement for Mike Tyson in the highly anticipated boxing match against Jake Paul, originally scheduled for July 20 in Texas.

Tyson's Health Scare

Mike Tyson, the legendary heavyweight, was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an ulcer flare-up. The health issue struck just as Tyson was boarding a plane, prompting doctors to advise him to lighten his training regimen and rest for a few weeks. Tyson, however, remains optimistic about his return to full training soon.

"My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good," Tyson declared.

Paul’s Response

Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, supported the decision to postpone the event. He emphasized his desire to face Tyson at his best, ensuring no excuses on fight night.

"I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night. My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best," Paul stated.

Roy Jones Jr Steps In

Amid Tyson's health concerns, names began to surface as potential replacements, with Roy Jones Jr being a notable contender. Jones, who last fought Tyson in an exhibition match in 2020, is keeping himself in shape, ready for a potential call to action.

"I’m kind of thinking about that. I might try and get into shape in case that happens. Maybe I get myself in shape for that," Jones shared. "If the fight is out there then yes."

Future Prospects

While Netflix is pushing for the fight to feature Iron Mike, the bout is likely to be rescheduled for the final quarter of the year, between October and December. Both Tyson and Paul are determined to keep their showdown alive, promising fans an unforgettable clash when the time comes.
