Dramatic Comeback Secures Victory
Despite losing the first set 23-25, Puerto Rico showcased their resilience and tactical prowess, bouncing back with scores of 25-14, 25-22, and 25-21. Pedro Molina, Puerto Rico’s outside hitter, was instrumental in this victory, leading all scorers with an impressive 22 points. His teammate, Klistan Lawrence, added significant support with 19 points.
Mexico Struggles to Maintain Momentum
Mexico started strong but couldn't sustain their performance against Puerto Rico's relentless attack. Mauro Fuentes and Axel Tellez Rodríguez were Mexico’s top performers, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. However, their efforts fell short as Mexico finished third with one win and two losses in the tournament.
Dominican Republic Shines in Five-Set Thriller
Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic secured second place with a 2-1 record, highlighted by a thrilling five-set victory over Guatemala. The match ended 3-2 (25-17, 25-27, 23-25, 25-20, 15-7), with Wilfredo Hernández leading the way with 19 points. Guatemala's José Pérez also put on a stellar performance, scoring 18 points for his team.
Tournament Awards and Honors
Puerto Rico's Kevin Rodríguez was named MVP and best setter of the tournament, a testament to his exceptional playmaking abilities. Pedro Molina received multiple accolades, including best attacker, best server, and best scorer. Other notable awards included Rafael Burgos of the Dominican Republic as best blocker, Henry López for best reception, and Enger Miéses for best defense and libero. Mexico’s Víctor Parra was recognized as the second-best middle blocker.
