Los Angeles FC showcased their offensive prowess in a stunning 6-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night, with Kei Kamara etching his name in the history books.
Kei Kamara Surpasses Landon Donovan in MLS Goal Scoring
In the 33rd minute, Kei Kamara rose above the San Jose defense to head in his 146th MLS goal, surpassing Landon Donovan's record. This milestone places Kamara second in the all-time goal-scoring list, just behind Chris Wondolowski.
"It's a moment I'll cherish forever," said Kamara, who emigrated from Sierra Leone and settled in California as a teenager.
LAFC's First-Half Onslaught
LAFC came out with guns blazing, scoring four goals in the first half. Mateusz Bogusz headed in a cross from Sergi Palencia in the 15th minute to open the scoring. Denis Bouanga added another in the 26th minute, turning the Quakes' defense inside out before slotting home. Kamara's historic goal made it 3-0, and Ryan Hollingshead's long strike in the 42nd minute capped off an overwhelming first half.
Bogusz Shines Again
Just after halftime, Bogusz netted his second goal of the night, converting a cross from Bouanga. This marks Bogusz's second brace of the season and his MLS career. The young Polish attacker has now scored eight goals this season, solidifying his breakout performance.
Tomas Ángel's First MLS Goal
In the final minutes, Tomas Ángel, a 21-year-old Colombian forward, scored his first MLS goal, adding the sixth and final tally for LAFC.
San Jose's Struggles Continue
Rodrigues and Benjamin Kikanovic found the net for San Jose, but it was not enough to overcome their defensive woes. The Earthquakes have now lost four straight matches and are winless in eight consecutive games since May 11.
LAFC's Unbeaten Streak
With this victory, LAFC remains unbeaten in 10 consecutive matches across all competitions and eight straight MLS games. They are now tied with LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake atop the Western Conference standings with 37 points, holding one game in hand.
