Zhang Triumphs Over Eubanks in Halle Thriller
Zhinzhen Zhang emerged victorious in a nail-biting encounter against Christopher Eubanks, securing his place in the semifinals of the Halle tournament. The Chinese player, ranked 42nd in the ATP standings, displayed remarkable resilience, clinching the match in three sets: 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. The duel lasted an intense one hour and 53 minutes.
"It was a tough match, but I kept my focus and managed to turn it around," Zhang said post-match.
Sinner Awaits in Semifinals
Zhang's next challenge is none other than the world number one, Jannik Sinner. The Italian star, who recently ascended to the top of the rankings, also endured a three-set battle against Germany's Jan Lennard Struff, eventually prevailing 6-2, 6-7(1), 7-6(3). Sinner's journey to the semifinals hasn't been smooth, requiring his best tennis to overcome his opponents.
Zhang's Historic Run
This marks Zhang's first semifinal appearance of the season and his career. Interestingly, he has never faced Sinner before, adding an element of unpredictability to their upcoming clash. Zhang's comeback against Eubanks was particularly impressive, as he won four consecutive games after trailing 3-5 in the final set.
The Other Semifinal: Zverev vs. Hurkacz
On the other side of the draw, Alexander Zverev, the second seed, will face Poland's Hubert Hurkacz. Zverev had to dig deep to overcome France's Arthur Fils, winning 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4. The German, who is seeking his first grass-court title, has twice been a finalist in Halle.
Hurkacz, the 2022 Halle champion, defeated American Marcos Giron 7-6(5), 6-4. The Polish player, currently ranked ninth in the world, delivered a dominant performance with 42 winners and 11 aces. Despite Zverev's unbeaten record against Hurkacz, this semifinal promises to be a thrilling contest.
What's Next?
As Zhang prepares to face Sinner, fans are eagerly anticipating whether the Chinese player can continue his historic run. Both semifinals in Halle are set to deliver high drama and exceptional tennis, with each player eyeing the prestigious title.
