The NFL has officially kicked the hip-drop tackle to the curb, and Ravens' coach John Harbaugh couldn't be more thrilled. The controversial move, where defenders have twisted runners to the turf by their legs, is now a big no-no in the game, slapped with penalties to keep players safe.

The burden of this dangerous maneuver hit close to home for the Ravens, as tight end Mark Andrews was benched for a good part of last season due to such a tackle. Harbaugh is all about player safety and argues that this old-school method had no place in modern football anyway.

"It's ancient history now," says Harbaugh. He brings the heat by dismissing the hip-drop as a new fangled trick that didn’t exist in the classic gridiron battles. According to him, players will adapt just fine, "because they tackled just fine without it for 100 years of football before that."

The league has set a 15-yard penalty for any game violation, but expect some stern letters and fines rolling out too, mainly because catching these moves in the heat of the action is a ref's nightmare.
