The captain of the basketball club "Dnipro" and the MVP of the Super League-2024, Stanislav Timofeenko, shared his thoughts on the possible performances of the team in the European Cups in the 2024/25 season. After the triumph in the national championship, the team has a chance to show itself on the international stage, but this question is still open.
Eurocup prospects for Dnipro
Timofeenko noted that participation in the European Cups depends not only on the players and the club, but also on the federation and the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine. He emphasized that the club's administration is dealing with this issue, and it is currently unknown whether it will be a group stage or qualification.
"Honestly, I don't know. The question is that it depends not only on the players and the club, but also on the federation, our Ministry of Sports. As I understand it, we, as the champions of the country, have a chance to participate in the competition. It will as a group stage or qualification, I don't know, because it is our administration that deals with this issue. I would like to try."
History of performances in international tournaments
"Dnipro" already has experience of performances in the FIBA European Cup. In the last tournament, the team played against the legionnaires, and before that it played as a Ukrainian team. Timofeenko does not hide his desire to try his hand at the European arena again.
"We played in the FIBA European Cup two or three times. The last tournament we played with the Legionnaires, and before that we played as a Ukrainian team. I won't hide it, I would like to try my hand at the European arena, see how our team will look in the European Cup."
Plans and expectations for the future
Timofeenko believes that if there is an opportunity, the management of the club and the federation will definitely use it to participate in the European Cups. He also emphasized that this is a chance for the team to show itself on the international stage and assess its strengths.
"But I say, it does not depend on us, but if there is an opportunity, the management of the club and the federation will take advantage of it - one hundred percent."
Conclusions and future forecast
Dnipro's participation in European Cups can be an important step for the development of the team and Ukrainian basketball as a whole. Taking into account the previous experience and the wishes of the players, it can be expected that "Dnipro" will represent Ukraine in the international arena. However, the final decision depends on many factors, including support from the federation and the Ministry of Sports.
