Clay Collard Secures PFL Playoff Spot Despite Loss to Mads Burnell

Clay Collard's return to Utah was bittersweet as he officially made his third PFL postseason in four years, despite a unanimous decision loss to Mads Burnell in the main event of PFL 5 at the Huntsman Center. Collard, who boasts a record of 25-13, struggled against Burnell's grappling and ultimately lost 29-28 on all three judges' scorecards.

"Making the playoffs -- and keeping his hopes of a first PFL championship alive -- was the main goal for Collard, although Friday's loss must have made it bittersweet."

Despite the setback, Collard's impressive five-point second-round finish over Patricky Pitbull in April secured him a spot in the lightweight playoffs in August. This achievement highlights Collard's resilience and determination, as he now holds the No. 4 seed and will face former Bellator MMA champion Brent Primus (14-3) in the semifinals. Primus, who secured the No. 1 seed with a submission win over Solomon Renfro, presents a formidable challenge for Collard.

Gadzhi Rabadanov and Michael Dufort to Clash in Semifinals

In another exciting matchup, the No. 2 seed Gadzhi Rabadanov (22-4-2) will take on No. 3 Michael Dufort (13-5). Dufort, like Collard, managed to sneak into the playoffs despite a loss on Friday, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the sport.

Impa Kasanganay's Dramatic Victory Secures Top Seed

At light heavyweight, 2023 champion Impa Kasanganay (17-4) secured the No. 1 seed with a thrilling second-round TKO of PFL European champion Jakob Nedoh. Kasanganay was badly hurt during the bout but managed to persevere, delivering a powerful performance that left Nedoh unable to continue into the third round. Kasanganay will face Josh Silveira (13-3) in a rematch of last year's championship matchup, where Kasanganay emerged victorious via unanimous decision to claim the 2023 title and the $1 million prize.

Rob Wilkinson to Face Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov

Rounding out the light heavyweight semifinals, 2022 PFL champion Rob Wilkinson (18-2) will face Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov (23-7-1), with both fighters earning their spots through decision victories. The stage is set for an intense playoff season, filled with high stakes and fierce competition.

Collard's journey continues as he aims for his first PFL championship, carrying the hopes of his home state of Utah with him. The upcoming semifinals promise to deliver unforgettable moments and thrilling matchups, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
