Gareth Southgate is set to remain steadfast in his decision-making as England prepares to face Denmark in their second Euro 2024 group game in Frankfurt on Thursday evening. Despite facing criticism, Southgate is expected to name an unchanged side, sticking with Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the lineup.

Southgate's Unyielding Belief in His Squad

Southgate's decision comes on the heels of a somewhat unconvincing 1-0 win over Serbia, where both Foden and Alexander-Arnold were singled out for their performances. Yet, the England manager is confident that the negative assessments are largely unjustified. In particular, he praised Foden's "unsexy" off-the-ball work, which he believes was crucial in securing the victory, even though Jude Bellingham scored the decisive goal.

Maintaining Creativity in Midfield

Alexander-Arnold's role as a creative force in midfield is another key reason for Southgate's consistency in selection. While some might argue for the inclusion of a hard-working player like Conor Gallagher or a precise passer such as Adam Wharton, Southgate values the extra creativity that Alexander-Arnold brings to the table. The manager's faith in his initial lineup, which was widely praised before the Serbia game, remains unshaken.

Key Players Cemented in the Lineup

Foden and Alexander-Arnold, however, are considered the "third man" in England's midfield and attack, with Bellingham and Declan Rice firmly established in the center of the pitch. Up front, Bukayo Saka's position is as secure as that of captain Harry Kane. On the defensive side, Kieran Trippier is expected to continue at left-back, as Luke Shaw is still not fit for action.

Tactical Expectations Against Denmark

Reflecting on the upcoming match, Declan Rice noted the difference in playing styles between Serbia and Denmark.

"Serbia were very physical. I see Denmark being more of a technical, tactical team. It's probably going to be a completely different game," Rice said.

With these tactical considerations in mind, Southgate's unwavering belief in his squad's abilities will be tested once again as England aims to secure another vital win in their Euro 2024 campaign.
