Tarik Lamptey has completed his move to Italian side Fiorentina from Brighton, with the transfer being finalized just before the Serie A transfer window closed. The 23-year-old defender joins "La Viola" in a deal worth €6 million.
"I'm excited for this new chapter in my career. Italy presents a fresh challenge and I can't wait to show the Fiorentina fans what I can do," – a statement that might capture Lamptey's feelings about the move.
Lamptey was once regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the English Premier League when he established himself in "Brighton's" starting lineup. However, a combination of injuries and managerial changes saw his playing opportunities diminish in recent times. He mostly found himself warming the bench last season.
Interestingly, despite his limited game time, the young right-back still managed to contribute significantly when called upon. During the previous season, Lamptey appeared in 20 matches for "Brighton", finding the net three times and providing two assists – not bad numbers for a defender who wasn't a regular starter.
The Ghanaian-born English defender now has a chance to revive his career in Florence. Will Serie A's tactical nature better suit Lamptey's explosive pace and technical abilities than the physically demanding Premier League?
