Raúl Martín Presa, president of "Rayo Vallecano", allegedly attempted to attack a player during a heated promotion playoff match. The incident occurred after "Rayo B" secured a 3-2 victory over "AD Torrejón" in their quest to reach Segunda RFEF.
The confrontation involved Jaime Alcolado, a former "Rayo" player now representing "Torrejón". Tensions escalated to the point where match officials had to intervene to separate both sides.
"This was a physical aggression, not an excuse or tantrum," – "AD Torrejón" stated in their official communication addressing the incident.
Interestingly, "Rayo Vallecano" tells a completely different story. Club sources claim Alcolado was actually the aggressor, stating they plan to file a formal complaint about the player's conduct.
"Torrejón" also expressed frustration about the match conditions at Rayo's training facility, where only 90 tickets were allocated for their supporters. "We tried everything and were better for long stretches of the match, but couldn't count on the support we deserved in the stands," the club lamented.
On the sporting front, "Rayo B" now advances to the final promotion playoff round. They'll face the champion from La Rioja group in a two-legged tie that will determine whether they secure promotion to Spain's fourth tier.
Will this incident overshadow what should be a celebration of sporting achievement? The conflicting accounts certainly add another layer of tension to an already competitive playoff series.
