In a fiery outburst that has ignited controversy in boxing circles, John Fury has alleged that his son Tyson was unfairly stripped of his heavyweight championship belts in both bouts against Oleksandr Usyk.
The elder Fury didn't mince words when discussing the outcomes of the high-profile fights that saw the Ukrainian boxer become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years.
"He had them stolen off him, to be honest," John Fury stated in a recent interview with Seconds Out Boxing. "When somebody's paid you a shed load of money they seem to resent letting you stay champion as well."
The first contest ended in a split decision with two judges scoring for Usyk (115-112, 114-113) and one favoring Fury (114-113). Their rematch resulted in a unanimous decision for Usyk with all three judges scoring the bout 116-112.
John Fury, who was absent from his son's corner during the second encounter after being part of the training team for the first fight, suggested financial motivations potentially influenced the outcomes.
"They probably didn't want to pay him the same amount of money again, probably couldn't afford to pay Tyson that same money again if they let him remain as champion," he claimed.
Despite acknowledging that the Gypsy King's preparation could have been better, John remained adamant about the results. "For me, he won both fights," he insisted, pointing to overtraining as a factor in the first contest due to an abbreviated recovery period following a cut.
According to Statbet analysis, the scoring patterns in championship boxing matches show significant variability, with split decisions often generating the most debate among fans and experts alike.
While Tyson Fury has officially retired from the sport, rumors of a potential comeback persist. The former champion recently responded to an Instagram post featuring Usyk discussing another potential showdown, with Fury writing: "Beat the f***er 2 times the world knows the truth. Any time, any place. sucher (sic) UK next time 100k people."
This suggests a trilogy fight could potentially take place in the United Kingdom before a massive crowd, should the Gypsy King decide to return to the ring.
