American volleyball star Erik Shoji has officially announced his departure from ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle after spending four successful seasons with the Polish powerhouse. The 34-year-old libero made the announcement through his social media channels, expressing heartfelt gratitude for his time with the club.
Shoji's tenure with ZAKSA has been marked by impressive achievements that helped establish the club as one of Europe's elite volleyball institutions. During his time in Poland, he contributed significantly to the team's back-to-back Champions League victories in 2022 and 2023, as well as capturing the Polish Championship title in 2022. His consistent performance and calm presence on the court were instrumental to these successes.
In his emotional farewell message, Shoji wrote: "There are no words to describe all the emotions I'm feeling looking back at these four seasons... So much learned, so much growth. So many amazing people. I am so grateful. All I can say is... Thank You."
Before joining ZAKSA in 2020, the California native had built an impressive international resume, competing in various European leagues including Germany, Austria, Russia, and Italy. However, his time in Poland has undoubtedly been the most decorated period of his professional career thus far.
According to Statbet volleyball analysts, Shoji's defensive capabilities and experience made him one of the most valuable liberos in European competition during his time with ZAKSA, particularly during their Champions League campaigns.
While Shoji's next destination hasn't been officially confirmed, reports suggest he will likely remain in Poland's top-tier volleyball league, with Asseco Resovia emerging as his probable new home. Volleyball fans will be watching closely to see where this accomplished libero continues his career.
